Company overview

The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is a statutory agency within the Defence portfolio responsible for defending Australia against global threats and advancing national interests through foreign signals intelligence, cyber security and offensive cyber operations. Suitable candidates will be required to complete ASD’s Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) prior to commencement.

Job Description

ASD is seeking Senior System Administrators to lead the installation, configuration and maintenance of complex systems within highly secure environments. Working as part of an integrated workforce, you will provide technical leadership, uplift team capability, and support continuous improvement across system administration, automation and operational processes.
This role requires strong technical depth, the ability to work with limited direction, and confidence navigating complex stakeholder environments.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead and manage installation, configuration and maintenance of multiple systems
• Use automation tools to support continuous configuration management and system builds
• Manage and provide advice on hardware and operating system support
• Provide guidance and uplift capability of other team members
• Participate in design reviews, stakeholder meetings and agile processes
• Work with system administrators and software developers to improve processes and procedures
• Navigate complex business environments with limited direction
• Communicate effectively with diverse stakeholder groups in both technical and business terms
• Write documentation in accordance with ASD policies and procedures

Education/Certifications required

• Degree in Computer Science or related field

Knowledge/Skills required

• Proficiency in operating systems, networking, database management and security protocols
• Experience installing, repairing and maintaining network systems
• Proficiency in programming or scripting languages
• Ability to configure, automate and maintain infrastructure using modern tools
• Strong understanding of system software provisioning, configuration and lifecycle management
• Experience designing and reviewing complex system architectures
• Ability to supervise complex installations and ensure adherence to safety and quality procedures
• Experience with systems integration, testing and configuration management
